Ever have that one class where you think “oh man that glute workout is going to hurt in the morning” or "when will my thighs stop shaking"? Yeah, us too. You would probably like to know who invented some of these torturous moves. Her name was Lotte Berk and she gave her first barre class in 1959 at her very own studio. The way the barre technique came about is pretty interesting. Lotte was born in 1913 in Liselotte Heimansohn in Cologne, Germany. Her mother was German and her father, who owned a line of menswear shops, was Russian. She was around eight when her mother died of a stroke. Some say that this started her sense of legendary emotional control and physical willpower. Read More
