Class Overview: Benefits of Yoga

And we’re back with round 2 of LavaBarre benefits!  Today, we’re going to outline some of the amazing things that yoga can do for you.  We should note that these are only a sampling of all the good stuff – there were so many documented benefits, we had to pick and choose!

1.     Yoga can improve flexibility. This is probably the most intuitive benefit – many of the poses involve stretching your muscles, and over time, you will notice a gradual loosening.

2.     Yoga can help manage stress.  Regular yoga practice creates mental clarity and calmness, helping to relieve chronic stress. Also, a new report released earlier this year linked yoga to lower levels of cortisol, the stress hormone.

3.     Yoga can lower your blood pressure.  How? High blood pressure is due to constriction of blood vessels, and yoga relaxes blood vessels and increases blood flow to the heart.

4.     Yoga can improve your sleep pattern, helping you fall asleep faster and sleep for longer.  Scientists think a regular practice helps you relax, making it easier to sleep.

5.     Yoga can help you give your body the love it deserves.  According to research at the University of California – Berkeley, women who regularly practiced liked their body 20% more than those who did aerobics…even though both groups were at healthy weights.

6.     Yoga can get you those muscles you’re looking for.  Think about it – you’re using your body weight to move through your asanas, and in many poses, holding it all in the air! Your new muscles will also protect you from injury.

7.     Yoga can help you eat more mindfully and lose weight.  Breath awareness strengthens the mind-body connection, influencing how you eat.

Finally, just like barre, yoga is another beginner-friendly class.  Anyone – regardless of age or fitness-level – can reap the benefits of yoga.  See you on the mat!
